Marty Pomphrey was born in 1970 and hails from Miami, Florida. After beginning his career at Nike Japan, Pomphrey worked as operations director and managing director at Fossil Japan and held several executive positions at the brand’s US headquarters. Since 2007, Pomphrey has worked on various business development projects as a consultant and entrepreneur and was named General Manager of Patagonia Japan on October 1, 2019. Pomphrey credits his love of wild places and outdoor sports to a childhood living in rural Alaska for the first 4 years of his life. More recently he took up surfing at age 40, drawn to the positive physical, mental, and emotional benefits of spending time in the ocean. Looking forward, Pomphrey says “In Japan, we have a clear opportunity, and responsibility, to apply our new mission statement, ‘We’re in business to save our home planet,’ across all aspects of the business to find innovative solutions to the climate crisis.”
